According to Garchen Rinpoche’s noble instructions, the prayer wheel with the standard number of mantras contains about 50 million Mani mantras and plus a small amount of Green Tara mantras.
Rinpoche says, you may choose your own deity mantra as the mantra inside the prayer wheel. Custom-made microfilm costs more and we can provide the quotation upon request.

How to use a prayer wheel

Tilt the prayer wheel slightly to the side when turning it. Start to turn the prayer wheel lightly, then slowly accelerate. Do not shake the wrist. Hold the wooden handle vertical to the ground, so that the prayer wheel may turn with balance and smoothly. Do not hold the wooden handle tightly. Instead, just hold it lightly. You shall gradually experience the relation between the kinetic energy of the wheel and your hand.

Personally, I use the strength of my wrist to continue turning the prayer wheel. However, the strength does not need to be great. Since we use Japanese bearings and they have good smoothness, only a small amount of strength is needed to make the wheel continue to rotate. In this way, the wrist may not easily get hurt.  You can turn the prayer wheel for several hours without problem.

When taking hot milk tea, H.E. Garchen Rinpoche uses raw-lacquer alms bowl. Rinpoche said, lay people may use the bowl as a vessel to put offerings such as candy or cookies in the shrine, or use it as personal food container for tea or soup.

The significance of an alms bowl

When Garchen Rinpoche’s long-time attendant, Bunima Lama, talked about Rinpoche’s Four Immeasurables, he said, “Rinpoche owns almost nothing. He carries with him a small cloth bag, one alms bowl and one hand-crafted Buddha statue and scriptures. In the past, using an alms bowl to eat in the cold Qing-hai region was to avoid the food to get frozen. An alms bowl is also the representation of Buddha Shakyamuni’s monastic vow lineage, so Rinpoche carries the bowl with him all the time. Aside from these, Garchen Rinpoche gives whatever he receives to people.”
